MULTIVERSITY THE JUST #1 reviewed

MULTIVERSITY THE JUST #1: The book begins with Sister Miracle on the phone with her friend Megamorpho, searching for a way to get sad to kill the techno-virus in her system. Megamorpho tells her she is going to kill herself and leaps off the top of a tall Metropolis building, which makes Sister Miracle sad and kills the virus. Meanwhile, over in Gotham City, Alexis Luthor is reading the allegedly haunted comic book while Batman tries to show her the invaders from another universe below them. Eventually, Alexis seduces Batman, but he is forced to hide her in the closet when a younger Superman arrives seeking Batman’s help in solving the suicide of Megamorpho. Superman discovers Alexis and he and batman have words. If it weren’t for Alexis’ father, he would have his. Batman grumbles that maybe Megamorpho committed suicide because she was so bored. Alexis suggests that Batman and Superman admit that they are lovers. Batman receives a call from Sister Miracle, begging that he and Superman come to her party. The Atom comes out of her bloodstream where he had been fighting the techno virus. Batman asks to speak to him but The Atom is more concerned about if he is getting an invitation to the party.

Elsewhere, Green Lantern discusses the haunted comic with Megamorpho’s boyfriend Offspring and tells Green Arrow how comics have got much darker. At Kon-El's gallery opening, Alexis and Harlequin note that he has changed, becoming more like a Bizarro. They also note that his date is Green Arrow's twelve year old daughter. Later, the Justice League simulates one of its older battles when Alpha Centurion ends up with a broken arm. Steel discovers that the android that injured him was tampered with. Batman interviews Offspring and discovers Megamorpho had read Ultra Comics. Superman is interviewing Menta who found Grey Lady and the Gentry in Megamorpho's remains. He also learns that Megamorpho was between physical states when she died. Meanwhile, Green Arrow has dinner with his daughter Arrowette and finds that she wants to start a super-team with Menta called "The Just". She begs him to let her do it and he gives her five trick arrows to use. Batman says that only one of the comics from Megamorpho's has an address from their world; all the rest must be coming from parallel worlds and infects everyone who reads them. Superman continues to try and convince Batman that Alexis is dangerous, when one of the Superman Robots knocks Superman unconscious. Alexis reveals that she and Jakeem Thunder have taken control of the robots as revenge for not being invited to the party. Sister Miracle's party is a major success, even as Alexis' robot army is en route to trash the place. And invaders from another universe are coming with no robots to stop them.

This is just one weird issue from Grant Morrison and Ben Oliver. You have to love what Morrison does in these books and, if you don’t have a sense of humor and a sense of the various universes in the DC Multiverse, then you would never get what this series is all about. Hey-we’ve got Batman snogging (go look it up!) Lex Luthor’s daughter(and she’s bald too!). Green Lantern has anger issues and Kon-El is dating Green Arrow’s twelve old daughter. Yeah-Grant Morrison is bananas…and bananas is good!
