MULTVERSITY: THUNDERWORLD ADVENTURES #1

In the Rock of Eternity, the Wizard Shazam notices a new day, Sivanaday, stuck between Thursday and Friday - "Sivanaday" before he gets attacked by a mechanical version of the Rock. Inside of it, Sivana has his children shout his name and they become costumed super-villains. He looks at a copy of CONQUERORS OF THE COUNTER-WORLD and realizes that he can win if all the Sivanas of all the different universes work together. He decides that he can use suspendium to create an empire by selling time. He created the eighth day by using the supendium he received from his other world counterparts. In Fawcett City, Whiz Media reporter Billy Batson is reporting on the timequakes when a a second Billy Batson, from the future, appears telling him to "look at the clock" because Captain Marvel is in danger. The Sivanas arrive as Billy becomes Captain Marvel and calls for his and Mary Marvel and Captain Marvel Jr. arrive to take on and defeat Theodore, Jr. and Georgia. Magnificus tells the heroes that the Monster Society is on their way but the Lieutenant Marvels arrive, allowing Captain Marvel to head to the Artificial Rock of Eternity, where he is attacked by robots. Sivana explains to his alternates how he created Sivanaday. Captain Marvel defeats the robots and arrives just as Sivana becomes Black Sivana. Turning back into Billy, he sees the crystal his future self, now him, had been holding and gives the warning to his past self before being turned back into Captain Marvel by Black Sivana. Thinking he has won, Sivana is told that Sivanaday only had enough suspendium for eight hours and he turns back to normal. All the alternate Sivanas get away with the last one, covered in blood, saying he will be back for Mary. In Fawcett City, Captain Marvel explains that Sivana got the idea from the last issue of SOCIETY OF SUPER-HEROES. Inside is a message stating "I'LL GET OUT AND DESTROY EVERYTHING!" He crumples up the book and he, Mary and Jr. fly away.

Once again, Grant Morrison is right on target with this great piece! Cameron Stewart provides the art and if you are a fan of the original or, like me, grew up with DC’s 70’s rebirth of this classic band of heroes, you will find this a major treat! The Big Red Cheese, as he was known, had one of the strangest bunches of villains and co-stars and this books makes use of all of that. This is such the perfect take on these characters that I want them back, corny as all hell. This is NOT the smart-ass Billy Batson from the NEW 52 origin of ‘Shazam’(still can’t get used to that!). This is such a tribute to C.C. Beck that it will make you wish for the good old days!
