Ultra Comics is a cybernetic comic book designed by the Memesmiths of Earth-Prime to capture and dissect Hostile Independent Thought-Forms.Ultra is powered by the Ultragem which allows Ultra and his readers to become are one living organism and need to save our world from HIT. Entering New York City, Ultra saves Red Riding Hood and meets the Neighborhood Guard. They warn him that Reborizzon's Dronedroids are coming for a box that the Elders had sent them to retrieve. They lead him to the Elders and he meets the former Ultra Man, who says the Cube is the key to defeating Reborizzon. Ultra Comics gets captured by super-cannibals and strap him to an Apathy Ray. Ultraa of Almerac rips the Ultragem off Ultra’s forehead and crushing it in his mouth. He uses his mind to kill Ultraa as the Gentry start coming through the box revealing that his helping the Neighborhood Guard was all part of a trap. The Ultra Comics from earlier in the book arrives as his present self dies of old age. He explains that the trap was actually for the the Gentry, who will become pure text. But the only way to close the trap is for the reader to close the book.
Grant Morrison and Doug Mahnke break the Fourth Wall and gives us this weird tale which just blows my mind. Morrison’s writing has crossed into that Alan Moore tripping realm while Mahnke’s art is his usual super stuff! With one more issue to go, I will be amazed to see how Morrison ties all of this together and saves us all from the horrors of the Multiverse.
